Overlake Golf and Country Club: Where Golf and Community Still Matter
Overlake Golf and Country Club doesn’t rely on flash to make an impression. Tucked away in Medina, just minutes from downtown Bellevue, this private course has quietly built a reputation for precision golf, outstanding greens, and a sense of community that feels increasingly rare.
With roots dating back to 1927, the course has matured beautifully. It plays 6,699 yards from the tips, with a par of 71, a slope of 133, and a course rating of 72.8 — enough to keep seasoned players honest, but not so punishing that a casual round feels like a chore. It’s walkable. Playable. And most importantly, thoughtfully designed.
The front nine opens with a strong par 4 (395 yards), setting the tone early. Accuracy matters here — not brute force. The short par 3 third at 142 yards offers a moment of relief before hole 4 stretches out to 415 yards. Hole 5 demands distance and control: a 216-yard par 3 that can easily turn into a bogey with one poor swing.
By the turn, golfers have navigated a tight mix of par 4s and a reachable par 5 (hole 8), then step onto the back nine, where things get even more interesting. The par 5 13th plays at 550 yards, with elevation and shot placement making it a true three-shot hole for most. Hole 14, at 432 yards, is one of the course’s most demanding par 4s, and the signature 17th, a 577-yard par 5, requires solid ball striking and decision-making all the way through.
What sets Overlake apart, though, isn’t just the layout — it’s the experience. Members rave about the conditions: smooth, consistent greens and well-maintained fairways that hold up even through the Northwest’s wetter months. Tee times are easy to book. The course is never overcrowded. And the welcoming vibe from the clubhouse to the first tee is something many public golfers haven’t felt in years.
Off the course, Overlake offers much more than just golf. From tennis and pickleball to a junior swim program, to casual dining with fairway views — this is a club that balances tradition with the needs of modern families. It’s country club life without the pretense.
If you’re looking for a club that values the game, respects your time, and builds genuine community, Overlake Golf and Country Club deserves a look. It’s not trying to be trendy. It’s just trying to be great — and that’s exactly why it works.
